Piet Kruithof passed away

The sad news has reached us that Piet Kruithof, one of the founders of the Dutch branch of SCI, passed away recently, aged 92.

Piet was a passionate peace-activist and Quaker, inspired by Pierre Ceresole. Full of stories, full of energy and full of warm friendship. I

n the Netherlands he started the Weigering Defensie Belasting movement in the early 1980’s: in protest against nuclear weapons he refused to contribute to the Dutch military budget through the tax system. It was one of many radical initiatives. For us, younger VIA-activists, he was a source of inspiration, but not always the easiest VIA-veteran, for he had little patience with what he saw as a lack of focus, commitment or political awareness.
