Opening Exhibition - Pierre Ceresole: A lifetime serving Peace

The exhibition Pierre Ceresole - a lifetime serving Peace. Around fifty visitors from Australia, France, Germany and Switzerland came to Municipal library of La Chaux-de-Fonds in order to see the 10 panels about Pierre Ceresole and SCI. In addition there seven display cabinets installed with photos, documents and objects from first SCI workcamps.
Jacques-André Humair, the Chief Librarian, of La Chaux de Fonds Municipal Library did welcome the visitors of the vernissage. He spoke about the heritage of Pierre Ceresole for the local memory La Chaux-de-Fonds. Heinz Gabathuler from the International Executive Committee of SCI thanked the library for organising the exhibition.
The archivist of SCI, myself, explained the impact of Pierre Ceresole to SCI nowadays. I did mention all the contributors and volunteers who helped to realise the exhibition Sylvie Bégulin, the archivist of the Municipal library and coeditor of the panels, spoke about its set up and the highlights. From the audience Michel Mégard thanked the Municipal library of La Chaux-de-Fonds for this first recognition of Pierre Ceresole by an authority in Switzerland.
With the exhibition also a brochure, available in French and English, is published.
A aprèro was offered by the Municipal library in the famous Salle Charles Humbert. The SCI archivist offered visits of the SCI Archives. Later a group of friends of Service Civil International had lunch in the nearby restaurant of the theatre of La Chaux-de-Fonds
The exhibition can be visited in La Chaux-de-Fonds till 15.January 2011 and from 28. March till 9. April in the Hôtel de ville of Lausanne.
