Service Civil International
Branch Archives of SCI Catalonia
by Heinz Gabathuler (Nov 4, 2014)
SCI Catalonia was founded in the course of democratisation in Spain after Franco's death in the early 1980s as "Servei Català de Camps de Traball". It has been the first, and for some time the only, SCI Branch on Spanish territory. They recently gave parts of their records to the National Archives of Catalonia where they are accessible to the public.
As always, SCI International Archives are happy that a local solution has been found for the storage of branch records, whereas SCI International Archives are responsible for the storage of SCI International's and SCI Switzerland's records.
SCI's pioneering engagement in humanitarian relief work during the Spanish Civil War 1936-39 is well documented in the International Archives under 20362-20369 and 20391-20392 .
